Members
VeriMe is a membership cooperative dedicated to researcher identity verification. Worldwide. We provide researchers digital identity verification services that enable verified access to research systems, facilities, and workflows — without exposing personal data.
Accountability is expected of everyone individually and collectively to create a research environment in which diverse individuals and organisations are empowered and enabled to own the research process and be accountable for their contributions to the research record.
Who is a researcher?
Researchers are professionals engaged in the conception or creation of new knowledge, products, processes, methods and systems, as well as in the management of the projects concerned. A 2023 study estimated that there are over 100m researchers in the world. This includes researchers, scholars, research managers and administrators, and research staff in communities, academia, industry, and independent positions. VeriMe is designed to serve all of you, wherever you live or work.
What does it mean to be a VeriMe member?
Researchers may create a VeriMe account for no fee.
This involves verifying your email, linking to at least one external account (such as ORCID), and securing your account with multi-factor authentication (MFA).
With this account, you have the ability to set your data sharing controls and share your account status. You can also view what verifications you have completed, activity logs, and what information is shared about your account status.
Researcher Members may access VeriMe identity verification services.
This involves presenting a government-issued ID (we support over 190 countries) and using a webcam to complete a personhood verification.
You can then rely on VeriMe to verify your identity in a variety of research workflows without releasing any of your personal data.
All active Members are VeriMe governance and are eligible for patronage distributions.
We are doing a rolling launch between October and December 2025. Register here if you are interested in being an early Member and providing input on the user experience prior to our formal launch in 2026.
What are the Member fees?
The Researcher Member fee is US$20 per year.
Members are expected to maintain the currency of their contact information and undergo an annual identity verification to be eligible for patronage distributions.
What are Patronage Distributions?
Patronage distributions are applied to each active Member account in the form of credit points that can be applied to the annual membership fee.
What are the Terms of use?
VeriMe has Terms of Use for the website.
In addition, the VeriMe Membership Agreement specifies buy-in provisions, annual fees, activity requirements for patronage distributions, and governance access and expectations.
