What do you think?
To better understand your experiences with identity management and privacy in research and scholarly contexts, we invite you to participate in a short survey. The survey opens 8 September 2025 and runs for 10 days. Our goal is to launch a community-wide conversation about online identity and privacy that brings the voices of researchers and scholars to the forefront and informs the design of every platform you encounter in your work, whether you are a professor at a university, a student doing field work, or a citizen scientist working in your neighborhood. We will be collating responses and publishing results after the survey closes.

Partnering with Dryad
VeriMe is excited to partner with Dryad on identity verification workflows. Partnering with Dryad aligns with our community trust-building purpose and together our work will help to define and drive adoption of researcher-first digital identity protocols for research data on a global scale.

VerIMe and Redivis Partner on Access to Secure Datasets
Identity verification is essential to establishing trust in the research data ecosystem, particularly when sensitive data are involved. Today, this remains a perennial headache for researchers and data administrators alike, with inconsistencies across identity providers and no robust solution for the common case of researchers moving between institutions. At Redivis, we’re incredibly excited for the potential of VeriMe to break down barriers in secure data sharing and help us collectively advance the research enterprise.

VeriMe and Signals partner on next-gen identity proofing for researchers
Signals and VeriMe are pleased to announce that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, agreeing to partner on developing requirements for a next-generation method of identity-proofing. Together, we seek to promote trust in research and scholarship and ensure researchers control over their identity.

Are you in control of your identity?
VeriMe is a cooperative built by researchers and research infrastructure professionals who understand both the daily realities and systemic needs of digital scholarship. I’m one of VeriMe’s cofounders, and for well over a decade I’ve worked on the trust infrastructure that powers research collaboration. Now, we’re inviting early adopters to help shape the future of identity in research by joining us as pre-launch testers, partners, and co-designers. Read on for a glimpse into what we are building and how to get involved.

Step 2: VeriMe PARTNER PROGRAM Launch
We are pleased to share that VeriMe has completed its internal proof-of-concept system! Our next step is to work with partner organizations to explore privacy-first identity verification workflows. We invite expressions of interest for our Partner Program — a unique opportunity to work with a researcher-centric cooperative infrastructure. Sign up before 25 July!

Step 1: VeriMe Governance Launch
When building research infrastructure, a fundamental challenge is integrating open design principles. Often we infrastructure nerds are entirely focused on the technology. The schema, standards, servers, software, and data exchange protocols. However, it is possible and desirable to innovate in multiple dimensions. Our first milestone in the VeriMe journey is organizational structure. We encourage you to engage with our governing documents on our Purpose and Principles page: re-use what works for your organization. And please get in touch to share your ideas and experiences!
